Co-creating one of the largest traffic management Solution in the World

Mastek partnered with the UK's leading professional and support services organisation to embark on one of the largest traffic management projects in the world.

Mastek was contracted to develop the software for the multi-channel customer interface and to integrate several other components into the overall solution.

Such a complex programme required strong leadership, skillful programme management and co-ordinated effort from several partners in co-creating the solution.

The scheme aimed to provide a disincentive to drivers wishing to enter central London through a daily fee. The scheme was expected to have the following outcomes:

Deter drivers from driving into London unless essential
Fund improvements to the public transportation services.

The successful administration and enforcement of the scheme depended upon creating a user-friendly, robust and failsafe system.

Since the payment service is the primary interface for customers with the system, it was imperative to make it convenient as well as non-intrusive.

The project was delivered on time and the congestion charging scheme went live on 17th Feb 2003.

The scheme delivered 15-20% reduction in traffic, a 10-15% rise in the average traffic speed and left money for investment into the public transport and road network.
